God of my life, I welcome this new day

Pastor Levi Gardner

My wife’s grandmother, affectionately known as Nana, gave Caroline and I this prayer and it has been a meaningful reflection to us in our daily practice of prayer. Nana is an inspiration to us as she has taught us through her actions that an unwavering daily time of prayer and study is central to a life trusting and believing in the love and power of God in our life. I invite you to use this offering to center you in the love of Christ and his daily presence in your life.

God of my life,
I welcome this new day.
It is Your gift to me,
the first day of the rest of my life.
I thank You for the gift of being alive this morning.
I thank You for the sleep which has refreshed me.
I thank You for the chance to begin life all over again.

Lord, this day is full of promise and of opportunity.
Help me to waste none of it.
This day is full of mystery and of the unknown.
Help me to face it without fear or anxiety.
This day is full of beauty and adventure.
Help me to be fully alive to it all.

During this day,
may I become a more thoughtful person,
a more prayerful,
generous and kind person.
Help me not to be turned in on myself,
but to be sensitive and helpful to others.

When night comes,
may I look back upon this day without regrets,
and may no one be unhappy because of anything
I have done or anything I have failed to do.

Lord, bless this day for me and for all of us.
Make it a day in which we grow more like Your Son,
our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

In the season of Lent, I practiced an intentional time of praying and reading Scripture for one hour each morning. I followed a plan that is designed to give someone the pathway to read the entire Bible in a year. However, I was able to read through the entire Bible in just over the 40 days set aside for Lent. This morning time with Christ was transformative in my relationship with God. When you intentionally begin each day in God’s word and in conversation with Almighty God your assurance of God’s love and peace will grow exponentially. We were given this prayer during Lent and it continues to speak volumes in my soul of how God has truly set aside each day as a unique gift to you and I. Psalm 118:24 reminds us, “This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

In closing, the line, “God of my life, I welcome this new day. it is Your gift to me” continues to challenge me each day. It is both hopeful and invitational. How is God teaching you not to fear or lament a new day but calling you to rejoice at the possibility and reward of what God desires for you to discover at the dawn of day.

Lord Christ I welcome you, I welcome this day, you are our gift, our portion, and our prize. Please let your love remain steadfast in my heart this morning and forevermore. Amen.
Grace and Peace,

Pastor Levi
